Body Shape & Men's Style: How To Dress For Your Body Type

Throughout a man’s growth from boy to man, he learns small lessons on how to look good- even dashing. However, sometimes good taste in style is not a man’s cup of tea. As you age, it’s quite important to pay attention to how you look and to take steps towards ensuring that you stay happy with your style. But the question is, how do you do so?

The first step to dressing well is to create a visually-balanced body silhouette.

The male body shape is as complex as women's and knowing your body shape is very important.

TRIANGLE

Finding the right fit may be a challenge bacause most men's clothing is designed with a broader top and narrower waist. What you need to make sure is to make your body appear proportionate at all cost.

Avoid wearing fitted polo shirts and roll necks. Also, bold and bright patterns will draw attention to your triangular shaped torso so keep everything balanced.

INVERTED TRIANGLE

The male Inverted Triangle Body Shape is a slightly exaggerated form of the trapezoid. It’s defined by wide shoulders and harrow hips which can be found in more muscular men.

Balance your lower body to your upper body by wearing trousers with straight or wide legs. Ensure your shirts, t-shirts, and jackets fit well.

This shape has the tendency to look top-heavy if not styled with caution. The overall aim here is to balance the every proportions.

RECTANGLE

If your shoulders are roughly the same width as your waist and hips. You have a rectangular body shape and that is usually because you have a tall and thin frame.

Straight well-tailored pants are a safe go because they look nice for your type of figure.

Avoid double-breasted jacket and try a single-breasted style with plenty of structure in the shoulders instead.

OVAL

If you are one of the big boys out there, this is for you. If your body is fully round with narrow shoulders and slim legs, avoid horizontal stripes that will make you appear rounder. Keep it simple and stick with dark colors, especially with the solid ones. It will make your looks more pleasing to the eye.

TRAPEZOID

This is the most common body shape for men.  What you need to remember is that baggy pants are not for this body. Find a brand with a close fit or have your trousers tailored. Stylistically, most colors and patterns should work just fine with your build.
