The MTRCB is at it again, almost butchering a great indie films with great content and potential.
The indie film Metamorphosis, which is part of The Cinema One Originals 2019 was almost banned in the Philippines and rated as "not suitable for public exhibition" by the MTRCB due to its graphic scenes.
Metamorphosis is a coming-of-age drama about intersexuality and embraces issues in LGBTQIA+ community.
Yesterday, Jose Tiglao, the director of Metamorphosis, shared his disappointment on his Facebook account. He said he will try to re-edit his film in order to lessen the daring scenes. "mawawalan na ng bayag ang pelikula." he said.
MTRCB banning the indie movie would deprive Filipinos awareness about intersexuality.
Today, the movie was reviewed for the second time by a different set of board members and now reclassified to R-16.
Nagtagumpay tayong palayain ang paruparo! From X rating to R-16 (16yo above are allowed to watch the film)! And we promise you that NOTHING has been compromised-- no shots or scenes have been cut. Maraming salamat sa lahat ng nag-ingay at narinig nila tayo! #LabanMeta #MetaFilm pic.twitter.com/6FPAGwEctk— Jose Enrique 🐣 J.E. (@jose_enrq) November 7, 2019
The movie will premiere Thursday night alongside seven other entries through the Cinema One Originals festival which runs from November 7 to 17, 2019.
